The 2017 season marked Vandoorne’s first season in F1® as a full-time driver. Partnered alongside Fernando Alonso, it was a challenging season for the drivers and the team. McLaren faced a challenging period between 2015 and 2017. Their main problem was unreliability with the demands for a compact engine straining Honda’s ability to produce power. Ultimately McLaren opted to switch to Renault engines for the following season. Nevertheless, despite difficulties on track, these years were pivotal in their development; especially seeing how the far the team has come in today’s F1®. Vandoorne also showed resilience, particularly at the Malaysian Grand Prix, where he delivered one of his standout performances, finishing seventh securing valuable points and underlining his ability to maximise the car’s potential. This clock features a McLaren Brake Blockage Ring – used on the MCL32 – a component of the brakes that goes in between the disk and the bell. The blockage ring plays a crucial role in allowing the disks to rotate freely, as well as managing airflow which in turn manages the temperatures. The Blockage Ring has had an extension mounted on to it, a backing plate and a clock mechanism added. This transforms this incredible piece of memorabilia into an item that you can use every day. This clock is 17cm high and 17.5cm across, with a depth of just under 12cm. This item has been crafted by our expert team of engineers that have captured the design brilliance of McLaren F1® Team.
