UFC athletes Diego Lopes and Jean Silva have been surprised with their very own piece of Octagon history this month. Following their bouts at UFC 314, both athletes received a framed pieceof the official fight canvas.
Better yet, their names were written on the canvas before the bouts took place and have been immortalised in these displays.
At UFC 314, held at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, Jean Silvacemented his name as a credible threat in the featherweight division. A member of the infamous Fighting Nerds, he submitted Bryce Mitchell with a second-round ninja choke and earned himself the Performance of the Night bonus in a standout showcase.
Fan favourite Diego Lopes fought on the main event slot, as he took on Alexander Volkanovski for the World Featherweight Championship. In a bout which lasted five rounds, Lopes took the fight to the former featherweight champion but was narrowly defeated via decision. Both fighters were awarded the Performance of the Night Bonus for their effort inside the Octagon.
Lopes and Silva were unaware that their names had been added to the UFC 314 canvas before being given this gift.
Diego Lopes said:“Without knowing, I had my name in my own fight. This for me is something incredible... What we've done in a short space of time inside the UFC, I think will be marked for a long time...This was one of the best experiences in my life because of everything that was involved in getting to this moment. This recognition is very symbolic for me.”
An emotional Jean Silva also went on to explain the magnitude of this moment for his career, saying “This fight changed my life,”.
